A Load of Rubbish

We take pride in keeping our village clean and beautiful, and we believe everyone can play a part in this effort. Not only does litter create an unsightly environment, but it also poses significant threats to wildlife and damages our surroundings. Cleaning up litter requires substantial time and financial resources. Annually, Wakefield Council invests approximately £4.5 million in maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of our district. This includes regular cleaning of main roads, timely emptying of litter bins to prevent overflow, and efforts to address illegal dumping by fly-tippers through enforcement actions supported by evidence.

We are dedicated to organising regular clean-up events, raising awareness about the impact of littering, and fostering a sense of unity among the village. By participating in our litter picks, you’ll not only help enhance the appearance of our beautiful village, but also contribute to the overall well-being of our environment. Join us in making a positive difference, there are a number of ways you can get involved. Either by joining us at our quarterly litter pick, getting your own litter picker and going it alone or if you are unable, you can contact us using the form below to let us know if an area within the village needs particular attention.

Litter Pick News

Summer 2024

The Summer Community Litter Pick was a little damp, thanks to the Great British summer. As always a  special thanks go to the wonderful volunteers who gave their time and energy to make the village a cleaner and more beautiful place to live, we collected 10 bags of litter.

At the same time we held The Community Threads drop off point, collecting clothing for numerous local charities and groups. More on this to follow.
It was lovely to meet everyone and get to know new faces over a cup of coffee and a slice of cake after the pick.

Spring 2024

In a heart warming display of community spirit, residents of our village came together for a morning of litter picking on Sunday 14th April – with over 30 bags of rubbish collected!

A big thank you to all those that helped with the event, either behind the scenes making cakes for after the event, or the many volunteers that turned up to help collect litter from our streets. It was a particular joy to witness the children of our village eagerly joining in.
